What is Gottman Method?

An effective approach, Gottman method is based on the idea that every couple has a fight cycle. The outcome of the fights and the time it takes for a couple to resolve their concerns is related to how well they communicate. This method focuses on how couples communicate, how they deal with conflict, and how they handle themselves during disagreements.

Counsellors can help couples identify and understand their emotions and reactions, as well as those of their partner. Once they are able to do this, they can learn how to respond in a way that preserves the relationship. It also teaches them about the importance of emotional connection in a relationship and how to maintain that connection throughout their interactions with each other.

Dimensions of a Healthy Relationship

Gottman method is based on the idea that there are four major dimensions to a healthy relationship. The research shows that a couple who scores high on these four dimensions is likely to have a long-lasting and stable relationship.
